OK, Butch

Here's a few goose pens to take a gander at. And as you should be able to gather the defect is not limited to just the large trees. Though some of the goose pen defects make you wonder how the tree can even stand.

Reminds of Thoreau s' recollection of living in a hollow oak when he wrote the book about Walden pond . One of my favorite books I might add .

Dynamite

I've got the Time-Life book called " The loggers " it tells of this bunch of morons that decided to blast down a big big redwood rather than saw on it for a week .

So this bunch of wizards bored it full of holes ,packed powder in it ,lit the fuse and got the hell out of Dodge ,pronto .

Kerbang,10 zillion redwood tooth picks .

I read My Side of the Mountain also. Great book for kids. I might even read it again myself. I will have to get Walden Pond. Al's review makes it sound great. I usually read a book in the winter. Last winter I started reading one written by John Erlichman about Nixon. It wasn't bad, but I still have to finish that one. Witness to Power.

Me three for My side of the mountain.

On some of those smaller trees, it almost looks like a sucker or co-dom had failed, allowing decay and pestilence to enter the healthy tree.
