In my quest to ever piss off my neighbors more and more, the damn guitar intrigues me! The roofing crew was Mexican today, today the neighborhood got to learn to like Spanish and Spanish music when I cranked up the stereo in the garage. Happy crew, happy roof right?
Wailing on a guitar in the garage has been a dream of mine for a while, but I've no idea if I can even play a note!
So on a modest at best, budget, where does one start?

I dunno Butch? I'd probably spend more on the amp than the guitar
I know I'm not walking into Walmart for an axe worth owning, but I also don't need a $7k Les Paul.

I need to know how much you're willing to spend. Right off the bat, I'd say get a Mexican or Jap Stratocaster or maybe an Epiphone Les Paul or (if you like a wide neck) an Epiphone SG.

OK, let me ask that question, with a realistic question as I really have no idea.

What should I expect to pay for a decent axe and amp? In my world, I don't think I'd be able to dump more the $200 without pissing off the wife. That doesn't mean I can't dump the money on the guitar and get a cheesy "pin on amp" for now, the go great guns later. But really, I've no idea a realistic number other then the best bang for buck, then go from there.

You get what you pay for. 200 bucks will get you a mediocre, hard to play guitar. Something around 4 or 5 hunnert is more like it.

You could try this, http://www.tunemybass.com/ I posted it in the Post A Cool Website thread a while back. You only need is a couple a speakers.;)

The kid in the house behind me started playing a flute or something before and after school for a while this year, he's given up I think. It can drive you nuts.
