Just placed a $1500 dollar order at Sherrill, ropes and other gear, mostly for the homeys. They quoted me $600 plus for the shipping, and when I asked them to revise that, the customer service chief, Irene, was really cool and helpful. She brought the charges down to $250, which is even better than I had hoped for.

My first experience dealing with them, and it was quite positive. They were very punctual and friendly.

Wow, that's quite a difference! I've always enjoyed ordering from Sherril; very friendly, helpful, and knowledgable. Never had a problem and I've been buying from them for years. Glad to hear you had a good experience too.

Still live in the same house they were born in forty plus years ago....with mom and dad, and sometimes gramps and grandma. I think that qualifies. Not a crack house though :)

These Nips do anything I say, and it goes on my credit card.

They revised the shipping price from 600 down to 250?

I dont understand that. So had you not asked for a better rate, they would have been plenty happy to screw you in the first place?

What a crock!

Yes, their customer service has always been a strong point. I've strayed away from using them, but that's mostly due to their horrible website (I like ordering online) and some bad customer service at the local Vermeer (refused to refund/ replace three separate defective items on three separate occasions). I went from spending $4000 per year there to about $100 per year.

But if you call them on the 800 number, it's pretty much always a good experience.

It was probably some kind of computer calculated shipping charge that didn't actually reflect the true costs. When a human person, Irene, looked at it, she adjusted the price to a more accurate figure. Orrr... something like that. :/:

Naw...they quoted me UPS, which is the normal shipper that they use for international. It's an expedited very secure service. I asked them to look into another shipper, which took a bit of research on their part, at least so I'd like to think.....and consequently the lower rate.

I didn't say that I wouldn't order at the higher charge, they could have tried to play that out, had they wanted.

I went through last years purchases, I sent much dinero their way. I like all of the major supply companies.

If you don't ask at Sherrill, you don't get. Better know about their special offers cause they ain't volunteering on the phone. I don't get the $250. Was it oversized stuff or just rope and gear? I seem to recall free shipping over $100. Otherwise, they're great.

I have no big quarrel with Sherrill-I got lots of good stuff with good service through them.....but I really like dealing with WesSpur.

I quit spending money at Tobe's little program a few years ago. Helped move a lot of equipment for them in LA, Wished I'd of known that was gonna go down cause Wesspur would have been in on that gig. Wesspur all the way, Sherrill blows.

Sherrill has been acused (with some justification) of stealing the ideas for a couple of innovative products and bringing their own copycat to market. WesSpur has embraced innovators and credited them while trying to help get their products distributed. Sherrill offers price matching. WesSpur can't match price point with Sherrill on everything but they beat them on a number of products and generally put out a catalog that seems to reflect an attitude of trying to offer their best deal first without having to ask for a break. WesSpur doesn't ding people on shipping and handling. WesSpur has a navigable website.

Sherrill could be a little more forthright about their pricing. For example, their CRUSH IT example on the web:

Our 150% Price Guarantee example:
SherrillTree price: $199
Competitor's sale price: $179
Difference of $20 x 150% = $30 savings.

The $30 is applied to the $199 which in my book is a $10 savings. It's a little thing, but the combined experience makes an impression. I appreciate what amounts to a 5.6% savings (10/179) but I'd prefer to pay a fair price and and not have to rack my brain to get the best deal. Other suppliers seem to walk this line between "specials" and competitve pricing a little better.

Informative post, thanks Justin. I wasn't paying attention that Bounce is from WesSpur.
