In our area, you use owl decoys to attract crows to hunt them. Crows attack and pester owls in the eastern US with no mercy.

Same here, but you can use then as a deterrent as well.
I once removed an entire colony of rooks by taking the nests down ( out of breeding season) and setting up a plastic model of a great horned owl in the tree.
They never moved back in.

We call them volunteers, those are the butternut squash variety, there are other varieties to be had though.

I like to put lots of fresh grated ginger in it.
Really peps it up.

I don't know about butternut, but other squash is good lightly breaded and deep fried.

How much space should I have allowed for my cucumbers?

My neighbor grows them professionally in a greenhouse. Plants look about 20" apart.

We always did "hills" or "mounds" about 6 ft apart in Vt for cucumbers.

Whoa, that's a game changer there. I don't have that sort of room in this years garden. Shucks.

You can plant them in a row with the plants a foot or two apart. They will spread out to about 6 feet wide.

I do it like this but a bit bigger around with pig wire doubled to about 7ft and a couple of stakes. You can get a fair few in not much space.

Trellising is great way to save space. A straight length of woven wire would work if you have some.
