Hey, the quintissential Bermuda summer holiday:
CUP MATCH!

Two days public holiday for a cricket match, followed by a weekend!

Somerset vs St. George's over 100yr history.

Ist day celebrates Emancipation Day in1834, the second celebrates Somers Day (Sir George Somers was the Admiral of the fleet on the way to relieve the Jamestown colony in America but got shipwrecked on Bermuda in 1609.

Radio on the background, St. George's needs 140 runs to win in the second innings...an appropriate 'beverage' to hand, it's making posting on the TH a bit difficult!

I wasn't loaded...then...and I only pack a light load anyway...

Highlight of the camping, a showing of Jaws, after dark, on the beach, while IN the water!! Someone had even made a little channel marker float, complete with a tower and a bell, too funny!
I sat on a rock, been married to a fisherman for too long go in the water after dark!

Call this recovery Monday...

Haha, you sounded like you were having fun! Ditto on being in water after dark. I once got caught out fishing on a sandbank off the eastern side of Fraser Island in Queensland. Hurrying back in, I kept falling into the shark run trenches. Truly scary moments.

Oh, and we just gave India a hammering at the Cricket :D

Any 4 day weekend is a good weekend!:)

Being from Bermuda I have a tendancy towards the West Indies, but they have been awful of late, then living half the time in Tasmania, a soft spot for Australia...but hey, a good game is all that matters really!

Living and working in New Zealand, I ran across cricket.

It takes FOREVER ( 2 days) to finish a match!

I watched it being played on the village green when living in GB. Still only get the gentlemanly in white and the drink beer afterwards part. Almost seems a paradox.

Its like Baseball for MEN.
Imagine the baseball being made of solid concrete, and the pitcher being allowed an almighty run up to pitch.

Imagine that there are NO foul balls, in fact the pitcher will TRY to hit you with the heavy concrete ball.

Imagine that the pitcher's sole aim is to bounce the heavy ball off the floor, into your face.

Imagine that instead of a nice round bat, your holding a heavy plank. And you have to start with it at your legs level.

Imagine only 2 bases, and that you have to run backwards and forwards between them.

All the field is fair.

An average game might have 600 runs per side.

Thats Cricket.

Still, having grown up in the states, a ball game is not a game without the occasional hot dog wrappers blowing across the field.
