I like to make things clean and simple and streamlined. the other day I was looking through a sherrill catalog and had an idea. Though probably already tried so I figured I would ask here.

could you use the fixe pulley similar to how the hitch climber works for minding the hitch? I'm not sure how to describe without a picture, but since I'm asking in an effort to not buy a pulley I don't need I can not take pics.

Think of it like this. your hms carabiner passes through the eye of a hitch (eye to eye), then the side plate of the fixe, then the spliced eye of your climb line, then the other side plate on the fixe and then the other eye in the in the hitch cord.

My worry is there wouldn't be enough room for the climb line to pass through the pulley without rubbing on the spliced eye.

Anyone try something similar?

If it is 7/16th rope, there is room. I tried it a couple of times, worked okay, but not near as smooth as the hitchclimber rig.

I bought the fixe' just for that reason, it is now on my lanyard as a slack tender and it is sooooo smooth there ;)

You mean like this?

You need a wide carabiner like the Petzl William. It works fine for smaller ropes but I prefer the regular tending pulleys because the sheaves come together and take up less space on the carabiner. There is no advantage in using the fixe. I have one rattling around somewhere, I think it's in the toolbox on my pickup truck.

I rock this for the past 3-4 years. Probably mucho better with a splice eye.

Ummm, how would you get the end of your climb line on and off during changeovers?? It's stuck behind one side of your hitch and the pulley cheek...right?

I saw some guys in Australia use the becket on the fixe for a creative setup, but I can't remember how it was put together, one rope was terminated behind/under the becket with a stopper knot, looked iffy to me

That's very much like I was asking about, just the rope and one side of the hitch need to be switched around. I have the hitch climber now and it works ok but I wanted a smaller system. I'm pretty short so I'm trying to drop the extra carabiner and get a shorter bridge so the hardware isn't no close to my face. Drt is still pretty new to me so I'm in the adjustment phase of things. I'm just a recreational climber and this is a work related site, sorry for the newb questions.

No reason to apologize. We've had a lot of newbies come on here. Fresh blood keeps the forum vibrant and alive.

Here is Brendon's rig with a spliced eye...........

I have a HC but still use this set up on my short climbing line. Its rocks. Its streamlined, basic, and yet efficient.

do you not find while tending the slack by pulling from underneath, the fixe' gets stuck in the"up" position...? I tried it and you have to push it back down all the time.

What do you do when you want to throw the splice end up to a higher crotch but there's no weight to it so it doesnt throw well?
