thank you SouthSoundTree, it was sink or swim same method my dad used with anything, you either learned to do what was required or found some way to avoid tasks which you were incapable of completing.
I have met a number of climbers over the years who are dyslexic and were drawn to the job due to its lack of writing and reading requirements suited them well, sadly those days are ending.
but yes the piece could have been tip crashed and still achieved a good result and I look forward to one day soon running my own rope man on site as part of the service and removing that unknown element.
