I think that one is made for running cable. The cheeks are not deep enough to protect the running rope from friction on external objects, like the side of a tree. Not saying it won't work, but it's not designed for the job.

Good catch, B!!! Sharp edges on that block could be rough on the rope, too ... especially in the 'on-again-off-again' loading often seen in tree work.
