372 XP GAUGE

So I have a Husky 372 XP with a .058" gauge on it and was thinking about switching it out for a .050" gauge to match all my other saws. Is there any issues with doing this? Do I just need a new sprocket and bar?

Sorry, if it sounds like a dumb question but I'm no saw mechanic!

You won't need a new engine sprocket for a change in gauge, only for a change in pitch.

Also I think any replaceable bar tips you have will still work. I believe it is only the rails of the bar that are a smaller gauge.

On ebay some time ago there were longer bars (happened to be GB) that were narrower gauge and sold cheap because it is not what we're used to in the US.

FWIW and general info chain gauge preferences are often regional .What might be popular in one area might not be elsewhere .For 3/8" chain in this area it would be .050 .

Believe it or not I have a 32" McCulloch bar in .050 that had a .404 sprocket nose before I changed it ..404 is most generally in .063 .

Thats suprising, .404 in .050ga. Did you switch that bar to3/8s?

And if so do you see 3/8s as benificial on bigger saws with longer bars?

I see no probs running .050 on a 372XP. I run 3/8" .050 on my 044 (same size as a 372) with a 28" bar. Works real nice.

I have 36" 3/8 050 bar and all my 32" bars have been 3/8 050. Seen .404 050 being sold out west mainly in past.

Yes on the bar,changed the sprocket nose to 3/8" .

3/8" .050 is the common size ran on 36" bars on Stihl 066 size .So that 372 isn't gong to pull the chain apart if that's what you're worried about .Fact I've got a couple 36" open roller nose bars in .050 by 36" that would fit on a Mac 125 .I wouldn't be afraid to run it .

Ran a 32" 050 buried on 3120 ripping cuts quartering big logs for firewood cutters. No slowing that down and was scary fast at times.

My non x-Torq 372 and 272 pulled 28" Oregon 73 in hard wood here. I have a 36" with Oregon 72 that they pulled very well also.
Normally it is .058 here, it works better in hard or dry wood. The .050 is what HVA want us to sell.
