I just rebuilt a 026 for a friend, new piston and rings plus new diaphragms, the saw starts and runs well until you go full throttle, it will run full revs for a few seconds then it will die, I swapped the fuel line and filter but that's not the problem, metering level arm appears to be set correctly, the saw is sat waiting in my garage in shame, any tips guys?

Look for a pinch in one of the lines when you put it back together. Make sure you have the diaphragm installed in the carb right, and make sure the impulse line isn't pinched or broken.
Same as Brian said, check the simple things first!

If the other above things check out. Check your order of rebuilding carb. Could be diaphragm put back in in wrong order. Reason for starving for fuel. ;)

Thanks, has anybody got the diaphragm sequence? I have probably got it the wrong way round, incidentally the impulse tube is a pretty loose fit on the carb, I may have to replace it.

Edit, I have the Diaphragm sequence now.

I had a 031 that impulse didnt fit tight. Small tie strap - zip tie fixed that problem. They even have little metal impulse clamps. I can remember how the impulse was on the 026's, so sorry if my ideas dont help. Any 026's I get I move on to others.

So was the dia in the wrong order?

Any more luck Carl?

Not sure if it'll be any help but I'm going to pull a 260 apart for bits so if any bits are of use, let me know.

Diaphragms meaning whole kit or just the metering diaphragm ?

My neighbor had a similar problem as you are having and just changed the metering diaphragm for some reason .After much frustation he brought it to me .15 -20 minutes later with a whole kit on it the thing ran fine .Happy neighbor ,case of Budweiser for Al .:D

I have had mysterious varnish (appearance wise) flakes appear at the inlet needle seat after a rebuild that can cause grief like that also. Just when ya think ya got all the crap cleaned out :/:
Pull the sucka apart and clean it again...

AgHhhhh! It's gotta be diaphragm order, working on it tonight and it won't even fire, the diaphragm order I have is not very clear, anybody got a good one? Hey Al I may have to take a picture of the diaphragm order, I know you've helped me like that before. 18stoner, got a good carb?

Here's the IPL I have, it shows three different carbs so you'll have to compare numbers. Hopefully it will help.

Not real sure how the carb is to be honest, its not a good runner with a lot of hours on it. 2002 model.

I managed to pick up two of them cheap and one runs well but needs panels and brake handle. the rough runner is the donor but if you want to try the carb you're welcome but it may need stripping so perhaps not much better than the one you have. Let me know either way.

Pete.

Thanks Pete, thanks to Brians IPL I've managed to sort out the diaphram order, it was wrong, also just found an ignition wire had come loose which I had to solder back on, not put the rebuilt carb back on the 026 yet as now I have my chipper to fix.

There's always something.

Put it together tonight and it runs fine now, no innards in the exhaust and a larger exit make it a little noisier.

Glad you got it gong HS. Those 26's can be finicky. Some start on four pulls other take 8 to 10 pulls. Rule of thumb when rebuilding carbs with a new kit, on the pump or inlet side of the carb the thin or pump gasket goes against the carb body with the thicker gasket on top. On the metering side it is the opposite, thicker gasket goes against the carb body with the thin gasket on top.

Thanks for the IPL Brian I swiped it for my library of IPL's. I might already have one on file but never hurts to have two. If I do have one it is for the plain Jane older 026's. Probaly the same saw with different numbers but a guy never knows.

Larry, there was a guy recently on Forestry Forum who has almost all of the Stihl IPL's up to about 2004 who was sharing them with whoever asked. Nice guy, Iraq vet. I think his user name is Boobap or something like that. Sasquatch Gary has a bunch of them as well. :)

10-4 Brian, I haven't added the Foresrtry Forum back onto my desktop yet since my wife got our new computer up and running. At least I still have the password to get logged back on. I'll check it out soon. Thanks.

A lot of us have the IPL's for that matter .On the carbs though if you know the model number it's just as easy to go to what ever company made the thing to begin with .They have all the diagrams right on their web sites .

Thats the guy I sent copies to, so I could slow down on the burning of them on my end. He has the same disc to copy for guys with this info and is the guy running Sawbid.com.

Maybe when I get another batch of CD R's I can do a little burning over the winter for you guys too. Husqvarna and Stihl.

http://www.arborcarolina.com/_Image...r_Service_Manuals_For_All_Models_All_Year.zip

I finally got it uploaded. The above link is a zip file of the Stihl Service CD that dealers get. It's dated 10/2003.

Download the zip file, unzip it and it will create a directory structure. There will be a folder named 'stihl', inside that folder is the file 'USCDStart.exe' which starts the program. It's a little funky since it's designed to run from a CD but it works and you can print out any page you want. It has service manuals and IPL's everything they have, saws, blowers, weedwackers, etc.
