What I can see is that you knew you wanted to relieve the internal strain by your initial backcut bore. And I do agree that the lower backcut was too low, also. I think it would have been better to stay with the first backcut bore in, bring it almost to the very back of the tree; and either...

The chain is actually running faster and more true, "out of the gate" with a pushing chain, than with a pulling chain. IMHO.

Does this happen with any tree species, or just a particular one ? Are you using full comp or skip chain? Are the trees you're cutting pretty much out in the woods, or in a developed area, or where there might be alot of target shooting...........Once I found a 45 slug in the center of a 40"er...

yep............should have mentioned that..........an even snipe is part of it..........keeps the tree in line, "eases" it down, and from going astray.

looking for good pics of block out face examples, and how other folks are using them. been working on alot of large red fir hazard trees, 40" - 50+", and with a few of them we used a block out face, which did a great job of holding the stem to the stump. so would like to see how other folks...

I agree. If the engine speed, at idle, changes when you till the saw up or down, or roll from side to side (this is call a "roll - out test") then strong possibility it's the crank seals. Also, there might be a pinhole in the flexible fuel line from the tank to the carb, which lets in air...

I am willing to bet that the reason for the expense, on the high side, is because of the relatively limited number of copies sold, coupled with the expense of the filming, editing, duplicating process of the times. 16mm film, then most likely he had to hire an editor, add sound and narration...

welp..........might have found some good, used tree saver rams, but no pump or hoses. does anyone know if the older tree saver rams are interchangeable with the newer model pump and hoses? :roll:
