I definitely agree with you! What they thought was safe in the 1950's would for sure be considered unsafe in this day and age.

Today was one of those rare days where the temps in NH are in the 90's range AND the dew point is oppressive. Those of us living and working with coronary heart disease find this weather horrible! Climbed and wrecked out a huge Pine today and wanted to puke the whole time. Just a nasty day.

My avatar is actually one of these old-time high lead climbers from that era, Finley Hays. Those of you who know about Loggers World Magazine, know who Finley was. Definitely someone who I would have loved to have met.

OK, for those of you that want to see some docs from the 1950's here's a good one. Shows some good climbing and spar tree setup work.

Came across this old US Logger video from 1983 that I haven't seen in years. It's about working in the blast zone of Mt. St. Helens after it erupted in 1980 and how the loggers spent 3 years daily trying to salvage the wood. They did a hell of a job too, if you ask me.

Hell yeah, I would love that! I feel so many of us back in the day if we were there, would have been high climbers/riggers working on those massive spars.
