Possibly his best work is a scimitar he made....from 5/8” rebar!

Not sure what you mean. That’s a sheet of 3/16” steel on the ground, a ~12” piece of steel pipe with coals shoveled into it, and the potjie set down into it.

I’m having to sit back from it at the moment. Low of 60° tonight they say, so it oughta be nice after while.

    How'd it go today?

I’m sitting out by the fire ring enjoying a fire and my grandkids. Going to cook a pot of chili in the potjie with my oldest grandson in a bit.

Had a whole fork of a huge co-dom split off a week ago. Went back today to climb the remaining side and get it down to where it can’t blow over. I’ll get the rest down in a week or so

I’m not one for bug repellant...never cared for the stuff...but I bought some to keep in the truck for when we’re in pine thickets or woods. I spray my boots and pants below the knee liberally. It’s seemed to help. Interesting thing...I don’t get chiggers. Far as I know, I’ve never had one...

Might just use a small propane torch for the hard-to-reach ones...🔥

That was the perfect time to reach the grandson how to skin a rattler, Gary! My neighbor killed a 52” timber rattler up the hill from my house last week. They’re becoming more plentiful it seems.

I think the idea is to have at least one to fall back on when the other three break down. Who would schedule break-downs on all four at once???

    How'd it go today?

Rather odd day... Started out with a 8-hour drive to South Georgia for my wife’s aunt’s funeral. Halfway there, her sister calls, saying that she and one of their brothers are at an ER in a small hospital a couple hours ahead of us. He’s had a heart attack. He’s 52. Had a double bypass 2-1/2...

11-12 when not pulling. 9-10 when pulling. When I went to the other side of Atlanta to buy it, I got 18 driving back home empty. I guess I have a bit of stuff aboard....

I’ve considered a Toyota 4x4 for the jobs where I’m climbing for other folks and don’t need the gooseneck or to haul a lot. Can’t justify the cost right now though.

Ram 3500...you won’t regret it...(forget the mileage...when you see what that Cummins can pull, you won’t mind feeding it...)

    How'd it go today?

Trailer is 16’ long so I cut everything ~8’. We stack it in piles 4’-ish wide. Crush it as tight as the BMG will with the Gehl, then load it in the back, starting right or left. Next grab goes on opposite side. Next in center. Wash, rinse, repeat until just higher than the sides (4’). Then use...

    How'd it go today?

I’d say roughly half my work is hired gun. I worked four (short) days this week, three of them for other folks. No clean up at all for me this week. How did you load your trailer, Brian? My trailer is 16-17 yards. I can’t imagine getting three of my trailer loads into an 8-yard truck.

    How'd it go today?

I’ve thought about a chipper again as it’s getting harder to find places to dump, but that would involve a chip truck, which is yet more cost. I still find it cheaper/easier to load and haul the brush. Had a 12” Morbark for years. It was worn out when I got it and more so when I sold it...
