thanks... that makes sense though you would still think there has to be a limit:
with Xman's video butch hitching those monster chunks of oak into the rings... that's got to be a lot of friction, though now that I think about it, maybe the initial shock load really doesn't put that much friction on the rings compared to letting a piece run quickly over a long drop.

If I understood correctly, Aluminum seems to take about twice as much heat input to raise the temperature of aluminum as it does steel.

Yep, I was simply comparing aluminum to steel. Better heat control with aluminum. Big Aluminum Ring sounds great to me. David was always going to do it. Georgio jumped on it rather opportunistically but hey, shite or get off the pot, right? People can only see a certain number of things through, David's got lots of plans but can't meet his own criteria. Me either.

Big ring better bend radius and heat dissipation than the strops I've seen Mick, especially better for heavy long runs.
