Having a house up high like that must be good for air circulation, keep the wood underneath from rotting and ant infestation.

Good for keeping out crocs and snakes as well in some areas.

The old ones I knew had Hoop Pine [Araucaria cunninghamii] flooring, no problem with that warping. The stumps were usually Iron Bark, lasts forever just about.
 
You have to consider where you're building at before you build .As a youngster I remarked about the steep roofs in the UP of Mich.My dad told me it was to shed the snow .Made sense once I thought about it .

Take old fashion stucco .Works great in the humidity of the Florida Keys but not worth a hoot up here in the frozen tundra .Falls right off after a couple years of freezing and thawing .
