Funny I was just thinking a set of keys would suck if you lost them in the chipper.
Now if you asked me about fires :/:
Oh my what we have lost loading slash on burn piles.
The metal stuff usually we get back from the customer though.. Little oil and some new handles :dontknow:

Edit... I almost forgot..... Rob's set of corona pruners through a customers chipper
Customer did it though after being warned that they were probably dropped in a slash pile he chipped....
Does that count??

how bout the 5lb axe that went thru my chipper, while being fed with an excavator......ouch...knives , bolts, anvil, and all the hardware...

ive thrown safety glasses, snakes, and little things that try to bite thru the chipper

i did stop some mexicans from pushing 2 opposums thru a huck and duck, they didnt want to touch them...i think they were scared

oh yeah scoop shovel...almost took me with it, metal head, riveted to handle...my wedding ring caught the rivet, took me right to the table, broke apart and let my hand go, bruised, but intact, i only use those poly shovels that are molded onto their handle now

One reason to never wear rings ,wrist watches etc around machinery .

I've seen rebar, what's left of a chain saw, stones ,even a rope stuck in a chipper .The rope was the most comical .It just wound it up ,about 100 foot of it .

I lost a couple of wristwatches before I gave up on wearing one, a really nice 1/2" doublebraid, and a springtooth point.
Erik, did you chuck your groundie's phone in the chipper?

Chuck n duck took my shirt, hat, and gloves one day and I had to finish chipping a hawthorne wearing nothing but my pants and boots.

Why do people always use rakes and shovels to push debris into the chipper? I can sometimes see the gears turning in my groundie's head as he stands there next to a massive pile of branches that would be just perfect for this wondering "Where can I find a nice long wooden object to push these twigs into the chipper? I know! I'll walk all they way around the pile of branches that's right next to me, and go grab a rake off the truck!" I guess I should be happy he didn't decide to use his legs or face or something like that. :|:

i saved a guy..he pushed some duff into a small bandit chipper, with a pitchfork, just as the handle was about to crush him, i reached over him and hit the reverse bar...he was glad i was there.

Almost lost an old gentleman through mine last weekend.
I was clearing and chipping some brush for a client and him and his wife had decided to help out, in order to keep the price down.

Their old and senile dad was also "helping out" and even though I started cutting a stack of forked branches to use for pushers ( I always do that when I have clients feeding the chipper) at one time I looked over, and here is dad, waistdeep into the feed chute pushing some small stuff in with his hands. I jerked him out by the seat of his pants and gave him a severe dressing down.

Pissed him off, but I'd rather have him POed than dead and he kept well away from the chipper for the rest of the day.

I do not allow anyone but my crew to feed the chipper. I just tell them my insurance won't allow it. If they want to help they can drag some brush but I mostly prefer they kick back and watch

In this country, if a client wants to help out and get's hurt doing so, it is their own responsibility.

I don't have to fear a lawsuit over that.

Unless the chipper is defect of course, but since I rent it out, I keep my chipper in 100% shape.

I wish it was like that here. I was taking down a smallish pear tree and it was hard to keep the 90yr old HO away from the chipper. The guy just really wanted to help feed the chipper.

That's funny. I don't often get a homeowner trying to help out at actually feeding the chipper. If someone seems like the 'help out' type I let them know in the quote that it won't be a co-operative effort. Just stay out of the way.

I didn't let him feed limbs but he sure wanted to. I guess he planted it 45yr ago he wanted to be its demise, kind of poetic I think.

After reading this thread, I want to start a business making replacement push sticks. "We have them in Black Walnut, and Cherry, and custom orders accepted". The problem is that there aren't any chippers around. :(

Cones, tire chock, garbage can, and a pair of sweet mountaineering boots that I had placed on the feed tray the day before after stepping in a fresh pile of German Shepard crap. I started up the chipper the following day and didn't check behind the black curtain. My bad...

A blade and anvil in our Woodsman 20x because someone did not torque the blades down after they were change..............really big mess. Lucky no one was killed.
