I do that very thing foe quick one or two branch lowering but I use 7mm perlon with a bowline for an eye on one end. I girth hitch the bowline onto the biner and either cow hitch or timber hitch to the tree.

Dave, it's probably because you know how slick tubular webbing is. That bothers me too, thinking about this application.

I'm not a big fan of girth hitches either, unless the host line is hefty strong, like a rigging sling eye. They do cut the strength down a lot.

I wonder why he felt the need to cut and toss? Not to mention rigging the top and spar down. Maybe it was a demo video? Why was he nipping the sides with his handsaw like that? He coulda easily just used his chainsaw.

I don't do it like that.

He's at arbtalk Butch. Something along the lines of not wanting to nip the rope is a reason for the hand sawing. He didn't mention why the tree was rigged down, I didn't get that either.

I agree with Gerry. Webbing has a much greater tendency to melt/fuse to itself when knots slip under load. At worst his could cause failure of the webbing, at best it takes a knife to undo the knot.

Looks a well enough made vid.
Looks to have been made (staged) for promo to me. If so cant understand the cut n hold, esp when there appears to be no advantage what so ever :?.

ps
Used a sling (3T) on porty last week cos I left dead eye at home. Just girth hitched and took up slack on porty before cutting. Wasnt really happy about it but it got the job done

And most importantly.... did anyone else mute that video?! Seriously, what the hell! I have an open mind, but I just don't get that ish.
