To me the really amazing thing is the presision of engineering, producing and assembling such minute machines dates back to at least the 3rd century BC. The Antikythera mechanism being one astronomical clock of precision. Considering the times it is really amazing.
 
Old tech impresses me more than new tech does. New stuff's like "Yea, computers, robots, whatever...". It's just some kind of pseudo magic you take for granted. Old stuff seems more clever. Even something like a record. I can conceptualize a needle rumbling over rough spots to make some noise, but making those rough spots correspond to something that sounds like something? That's pretty damned good for >100 year old tech.
