I wonder if the homeowner was that calm when he saw the results. I kinda doubt it

I would guess too little hinge for wedging the weight and the lean. But.. I would prefer to see the stump.

That's what I figure...I have cut some before where it looked like a tooth pick was all that broke when the tree went over...it was the rope in the top that started the tree in the right direction for me. I have had some REAL thin hingewood before.

I try not to make it a habit.

Logging eastern hardwoods, you'll get the belt from the guy grading logs in the yard at the mill if you don't have whisker thin hinges. Hence the common borecut.

I've lost bids on removing a tree or limb off roofs, I explain it's going to take a bit more time to secure the tree before I go cutting, it's very likely the tree will upright itself once some weight is taken off or a large limb might go rolling off uncontrolled and do more damage, or worse hurt someone.
