Lotta diff opinions re vermeer. I have a 752 stumper, 20 y o, it's been good. But I hear alot bad about their chippers.

FTR:

I wouldn't seriously look at vermeer unless something was too cheap to pass up. I've heard too much negative feedback on the machines/company to give them a try, when there's other good quality alternatives with a more uniform track record.

a vermeer 1600 chuck n duck cut off several of my first tree boss's fingers, course lot of it was his doing

Every vermeer rep I've ever spoken with seems to be absolutely clueless. I ask things like what's it's slope limit and they look at me like I've got two heads. I explain what I'm talking about and at best i get some vague half attempt like "Oh it handles hills just fine" yeah? When does it roll over? What angle will the engines oil pump starve at?

They never have any answers for me, and I never have any money for them, so I guess it's a fair deal all round.

I’m sure if it were any other machine brand with the same issue a guy would be making an IG bitching just the same.

exactly same thing here.

Re boss's fingers, machine wasn't running right/less than full power so therefore the chute clogged, he reached into the base of the discharge chute before the drum had fully stopped/was barely turning but yeah it was still turning, it took off half of both index and middle finger. They were there laying in the infeed chute now, partially curled like they're trying to grip something invisible, we put em in a baggie with ice hoping for reattachment, yeah nah.
