Hi,
I have a 2002 Vermeer BC1400, had it about 4 years. I change the knives approx 2/year, I have never adjusted the anvil.
I am starting to get longer chips, so I assume I need to do some maintenance, but I do not know what is the procedure. I have ordered the service manual, but Vermeer says it is 3 weeks out and they do not have a digital version.

I know I can adjust the anvil with the set screws, but it also seems I can flip the anvil upside down, or end for end.

What is the anvil gap spec?

Is adjusting the gap enough or is flipping it required?

Also what is the procedure for tightening the drive belt?

Is it worth sharpening the knives and adjusting the anvil to used knives, or just keep buying new sets (150CAD/knife set double sided)?

Work is slow enough still I can put off chipping for a bit, but I am hoping to be chipping more soon. I feel I will become impatient waiting 3 weeks for a manual, I want to get on with maintenance to be ready for spring.
Any tips are appreciated,
Thanks in advance
