It can be kind of bad. It's been a while but I messed up my shaft also so I had to replace everything. Seems to me it was a little over a thousand for the parts. May as well replace the belt while you have it apart. I remember cutting a hole in my shop table with the torch to allow the shaft to stick through there and pounding on the shaft with a sledge to get the bearing on. Or it may have been to remove something. My memory is getting a little foggy on the details. It's kind of big and heavy but very straightforward.

Nooooo. Something like that I need to do with my own hands and eyes, or hire out to some entity that would take responsibility if not done properly.

That is my way also Chris. I didn't do the whole job but was around for most of one and it is a pita but doing yourself saves much coin. One point I will stress should you tackle it is heat and cold are your friend as with any bearings on shafts! Good luck.

I have a garage to do it in with overhead crane, torches, etc..... My buddy is a farmer and machinist. His garage is LOADED with everything a man could ever need. Everything and he didn't flinch at the idea of doing it with me. He has been mending farm equipment since he was in diapers and being that he is a metal worker as well, I think Im in good hands.

When should I bring my Bandit by?

Who's your buddy, Al Smith?

Youll be fine with that guy. Make it fun for him though, have him wear a blindfold.

I brought it up to my buddy about using his garage. His response "Bad bearings on a heavy object........that's the story of my life anymore. Just order the parts and bring it over, its no big deal. Just another days work".

I have been down that road a few times. Welding on or cutting with a torch or die grinder takes a lot of work out of removing. Cleaning up the shaft or bore, taking measurements as you go, helps with install. Nothing sinks in as good as learning the hard way.
