V2 Rocket Hits in London

I'd like to see the damage in dollars in today's economy. WE think we have it bad, ha!

No, there was no targeting whatsoever. Every shot was a blind shot.

I think you are confusing the V2 and V1 rockets, Butch.
The V2 was aimed at a specific point ( but not very specific, we agree on that) the V1 was aimed in a general direction and flew till it ran out of fuel, then it went down.
That is why the Spitfires could bounce it around with a wingtip and make it head for the ocean.
The Vergeltungswaffe 1 was a really interesting construction. It was in effect the first ramjet. When the airpressure inside had buildt up enough to make it possible to ignite the petrol/air mix, it would fire and a shutter ( whole curtain of them, in fact) in front would close, directing the blast backwards. Then the shutter would open again to let air in and so on. They had a very distinctive sound. Putt....Putt.........Putt.......sort of.

During WW2, the enterprising Japanese sent 9000 bombs over to the west by attaching them to balloons, intended to blow up things and start forest fires, create general havoc. Only about a 1000 actually made it to the states and Canada, not a good success rate for a weapon, but a few people were killed by one explosion. One reason that the strategy wasn't successful, is that the bombs were not sent during the dry season , where fires could have been a nuisance. It didn't get much publicity, and the Japanese got discouraged by not getting the results they had hoped for.

Werner von Braun was a major part of the V2 program...

Then he put Apollo on the moon....

Yep, by the end of the war, if the US could have gotten Hitler to help them in their competition with, and antaganism against the Russkys, they probably would have given him a job.

Yes, way!
They would fly up alongside the V1 and give it a gentle nudge with a wingtip, to change it's direction. The Spitfire and one of the US planesm Mustang I think, were the only fighters fast enough to do this.
The tecnique was invented by some crazy RAF ace after they lost too many planes trying to shoot the V1 doodlebugs out of the sky. When they blew up, they really blew up and would often take the attacking fighter plane with them.

My dad was on "the other end". He told me that when he came home after being a POW his entire village was rubble. He rapidly got tired of sorting bricks and came to the USA. His family all did make it though the war but lost everything.

Without being all conspiracy i wonder why all the "targets" are grouped around the east end and industrial areas not the commercial centres or Westminster, Buckingham palace..Chelsea, West London etc where the wealthy lived??

Just something that has bugged me from my experiences of driving round the city.

Guess its warfare but why?

Industrial areas produce war materials.
