Traffic cones

Is there a specific paint or marker that can be used to stencil words on a traffic cone that will last? ie TREE WORK AHEAD. A quick google search didn't come up with anything useful.

Try roughing up the surface with some sandpaper first.

...mine are hand marked on the reflective tape... Customer / neighbor gave them to me after Hurricane Irene

A sharpie works for a while but fades over time. Other than that I don't know.

Give the lettering a thick coat of lacquer.

Fwiw, OSHA won't like that, doesn't meet the uniform traffic control device acronym acronym something or other federal requirements.

Roughing it up with an engraver. Wonder if it will help.
