The other problems with nutters is they/them are often on heavy drugs or meth or both. If they start up like that, you have to get control NOW. Down it goes. If they get your gun, or ..... It can get real ugly really fast. Crowd around you can be an issue. Are they all LEO friendly?
Once drugged up, takes more to put them down. Numb and on adrenaline.

Now that I think about it, and since you have inspired me to think harder, it would probably work better than with micro thin cordage because it is less resistance to loosing shape and structure, and less likely to tangle.

Yeah, but I think the key to the method is the crisscrossing of the figure 8. It forces loops to stack rather than get their order mixed up. I guess the alternating direction also eliminates twist.
