Looks like as he lowered the load it came behind the boom sheave and actually pulled the boom over backwards. The gantry only works to hold the boom from falling away, actually set up to close to the load. Operators seat would be a bad place to sit that day!

What can I say. I would consider captain Sully to be a true hero - Flying a commercial airliner is responsibilty enough - but putting it down in the river safely under extreme pressure? Thats heroic.

Unfortunately, I only really learnt more about captain sully from the Capitalism film, where I found out what ridiculously small salaries pilots in the US get paid
