Almost, Jay. It's actually a gayageum, which is the Korean version of a koto, which are both versions of the Chinese guzheng. Very cool nonetheless.

I don't know about the Korean variety, but the Japanese koto which is very similar, though there are a few male players, is generally considered a woman's instrument. Men play other types of traditional instruments.

It's a traditional Japanese koto, body made of Paulownia wood. I didn't know that they had been electrified. She's a very good player, most original.

The last paragraph of that article mentions June Kuramoto of the band Hiroshima. June has been a good friend of my wife's for 35 years. Very interesting instrument.
