Good news, my mate of 45 years (who?s also a tree guy) is coming to France for the weekend.

Bad news, before they arrive I have to try a repair some concrete posts I broke after a schoolboy error felling some willows yesterday.
The client’s a stickler and I suspect an insurance claim is in the offing.

Good news it's Friday. Bad news I signed up for and scored overtime again.

Most guys I'm working directly with now are half my age. Makes a guy feel......awesome. As I've been continuously dominating the dryer feeding. I've figured out how to cypher all the numbers on the jumbotron in the lunch room. And now that I'm firmly in the union the razzing is beginning. Ya know me, gotta stir the pot a little to keep things exciting. Most guys have a GAS attitude towards production and throw that back at me. I tell them no bother if they're ok with sucking at what they do, no bother to me at all. Lol.

Heh Mick what kind of concrete posts and what did you do to them that would,require a insurance claim?

I may be wrong, it’s been known, but I’m guessing that after a while you may work out that being awesome at your job isn’t worth the effort, no one will care, no prizes or extra income. All your graft and sacrifice just benefits the bosses.

Then you’ll slip into doing just enough to get by, like the rest of them.

It hasn't happened yet in 30years of employment/working but you never know. There's many likeminded individuals around there just very few in the young /new hire departments. I've been getting on really well with a lot of the more old school longer term employees and many people recognize what I'm doing right up to management. A 'optimization' specialist came and watched me work for awhile yesterday before introducing himself, explaining his process of advancement through the company as well as discussing the numbers I've been putting through/out, and welcoming me and thanking me for my effort. Take from that what you will, as have I.

Kick ass, take names! Try not to alienate the others, encourage them. Most young guys, like most old guys will do what they have to do to get by. The ones that want more, work more, provided that there is a process of advancement.

Good news is that I'm back from another grueling stint at logging camp.

The bad news are twofold.

One, I'm having to do 2 more weeks of it.

Two, Daniel Murphy didn't approve of the way I dealt with a leaning ash.

Might have to go commit Seppukku, now.

Work union and you'll find many who do "just enough" to keep their job. Then they bitch that their union sucks even though the union Is the only reason they're working in the first place.

The good news is we're off 12 hour days and back on crazy 8's. That's also the bad news. Less time making money, more time to spend it.

Good news- My old bucket truck rolled out of the driveway for the last time today and I have a check to deposit.
Bad news- My new bucket truck busted a hose yesterday. Cost me $140 by the time it was done, plus the 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid. Even new stuff breaks.

The good news is there is an Arb camp this weekend in Norway and Kevin bingham is supposed to be there.

Bad news is the Norsk?s Trepleie Forum don?t tell anyone anything so I found out third hand on Monday. The missus is away in Germany working and I am stuck on daddy duty.

At least I don?t have to see this abomination... petzl?s offering for single line working.

Looks terrible. After all the time to develop it and this is what they come up with... wtf!!!

So, I still put in eight and hit the gate. Overtime is another eight hour shift were I put in eight and hit the gate. Sunday overtime shifts are straight double time eight hour shifts. What kind of fool doesn't sign up for that? It's pretty stressful alright. I need a lunch, clothes, and my boots. Lol.

Of course the bosses love me I kick ass. The guys like me too, getting to know a bunch of them. Today was awesome we hit a really hard to achieve milestone on our dryer of 50,200 linear feet. The big 50 on random which is nearly unacheivable. To give perspective many shifts don't/won't hit even 40. Yup I was feeding but everyone has to be on board to make it happen. Buncha high fives and pats on the back at the end of the shift and a big props from the supervisor too. What's not to like? Go home feeling like a million bucks. Workers become a team, company makes money. Win, win, win.

Good news, the new groundman can run the modded ms460, and chipper, learning about safer work practices, planning the work and working the plan, likes not feeling in danger at work. Has experience at Evergreen Tree Care being"struck-by" and whipped to work harder, not smarter. Has an occupational restricted drivers license, but valid (owes money from an old accident).



The bad news, he's broke, and has 6 kids, some a former relationship, some from his wife, and counting his step kid whose dad is in jail.

That must suck while driving.

I've only gotten close to a handful of deer. One was tame at a camp i worked at and that was super cool, I'd feed it carrots. But any wild ones I've been close to seem borderline dangerous. I've mostly been near wild ones after they've been hit by a vehicle.
