Anything I have to push into my ear hurts after a very short time. I've always felt it was the pressure or lack of, the roll ups don't seem to do that.

I was at Goodwill last month and walked away with a gallon ziplock stuffed full of the individually wrapped corded ones for a buck. I felt like I got a pretty good deal.

I need a place for those of us who hate earplugs to vote.
This is like when we vote about the EEC. No place for those who simply hate it to vote. I always miss the option that simply says: disband it!

Once, they're in, I just go about my thing.

I almost prefer it,
I'd say of all the PPE out there, The first thing I reach for are my ear plugs.

Noise bugs me sometimes, gives me a headache, especially those that pull their spark arrestors off.

It's not official 'til you vote! :|:

I don't care about the seal, i've never thought of it that way.

I lick them for the taste of the ear wax, I like used ones better.
Never used another man's earplugs though, I might try a woman's ear plug.

I hate the ones with the bracket, like frans likes, don't like muffs, or the strings, nothing but either the yellow or red ear plugs.

They keep sawdust out of your ear canal also.

The biggest hassle I have with ear protection is what to do with it when you don't need it in. [...]:(

Same here. I haven't found foam plugs that work for me and I've tried a bunch of'em. I use a forestry kit on my helmet on the ground and on big takedowns. I don't use anything otherwise.

Last time I was ordering gloves, I also ordered a few different types of earplugs from Galeton as well. If you're having troubles finding a good fit you may want to ask for samples of the different styles.

Galeton's policy is a bit tighter now, ex: you have to pay shipping on any samples they send. BUT...they're still very helpful and will work with you to get you what you need.

Jay, I think they ship internationally...I remember them helping Nate out when he was in Germany a couple years ago. Or at least I think I remember. Maybe I made that up.

I had to go to the hospital once because I got sawdust on the tip of my earplug and then shoved it into my head. Do that a few hundred times and pretty soon you got an ear canal full of saw dust. Now I used muffs attached to my helmet. They have higher noise reduction ratings than any plug, and can be put on the back of the helmet when I don't want them on without worry about dropping anything while wearing gloves.

They have higher noise reduction ratings than any plug,

You sure about that? I was under the impression of the exact opposite. The muffs are nice, I use em in the winter months cuz they help keep you warm but in the summer they are gross nasty. Plus with safety glasses on you dont get a good seal with the muffs.

I dont spit on the plugs. Just roll and insert.

Muffs are usually between 22dB and 30dB rated depending on the quality. No idea what earplugs are rated at, don't like them anyways.

I had to wear the things at work for years untill this new class of quiet machinery came into being .

The foam ones made my ears itch like they had poison ivy ,hated them .The ones on a string didn't seem to bother me .

You know they make hygeine kits for the muffs so you can replace the parts that get nasty.

Its not about getting nasty over time. What I meant is, when its 95 degrees out, and so humid you can see the air you breathe, muffs are not very comfortable, and are disgustingly hot. I only use em in the winter for the warmth, otherwise I usually prefer plugs. And Ive tested which work best for me. Plugs definatly block more noise than muffs. Like I said when wearing glasses you cannot get a good seal with the muffs.

I only use the Yellow Classics earplugs. I dont care for any others.

Yellows are wimpy, twin cup all the way.

Huh?

Yellows are the BEST.

Anyone ever had the custom fit ear plugs? The ones that are made from a mold casting taken from the inside of your ear?

Years ago I knew a guy that had a pair. I was intrigued.

I'm talking about the peltor line-up. The twincup that are black with red trim are the best. They used to be green.
