yep, you read that right, it is a design flaw methinks.:O

the nice and easy quick release fast-buckle has a gap between the polycarbonate over and the steel mechanism underneath.

i always wondered if a piece of wood would get stuck in there.

Well today, as I was trying to get the buckle on the leg strap undone, it wouldn't let go:X

I looked and neatly wedged in the gap was a piece of maple.

Could not get it out, had to borrow a big paperclip from the client, took about 5 minutes to get it out, never happened before, may never happen again, but, it DID happen once ;) karst_2133_54590967.jpg

I've had things get stuck in those clips several times. Never was I worried about it, but shit inevitably gets jammed in there either keeping the clip from being opened or sticking it open when you don't want it. It isn't as bad as the old buckingham glide connectors, which would come apart when you rubbed your legs together, but it's worth being aware of for sure.

My concern would be more up in your area, where it gets cold as f'k. Tree water freezing in there would be bad.

I really don't think it's a flaw though. ...more of a characteristic me thinks...

:O:O good point man, but if it is cold enough to freeze, there would be no water here, just ice :)

Better to not be able to undo it than having it come undone when your not expecting it. What were ya doin' tree-huggin' again?:D

I dunno man, it just got in there, but i was hugging the tree a bit trying to get out to that frikkin' limb with nothing to hold and my rope about level with my eyeballs ;)

You don't get sugar and red maple icicles there from them bleeding after pruning in the winter?

you would stand her on her head??? man, you are a weird one ;)

Who derailed this thread?

I don't see the buckle getting jammed as a design failure. The clip on my flipline got jammed today with saw dust. Its happened two or three times over the years. I don't see it as a failure of design so much as something that can happen.

Well said Darin.. My clip has done the same.. Today was very much reminiscent of prior times.. As of tonight due to saw dust, snow and ice, and oak bark; A couple biners (petzl ovals), my rope snap on my flip line, hitch climber pully, a few screw locks (off the rigging) and a block all need baths and some lubrication to work properly again. I also need a trip to the laundromat for some rope and prussic washing. Good thing I have several prussic cords. What a friggen mess.. No design flaws... Just environmental circumstance.

that is why i got , i dunno, 15 hitch cords? ;) and I still think it sucks, maybe not a flawed design, but one that could be a problem on a regular basis in the right tree

I guess it comes down to how often it happens. I've had my Sequoia saddle since before the redwood climb get together, which makes it over a year and half old, and that has never happened to me.

My Sequoia is giving me some bad leg problems. The leg straps are pinching some thing in my but and causing pain in my knee and feet. I sit in it for hours on end looking for the ALB. I am about to get rid of it. What iI need is a swing seat. does any one else have this problem after prolonged sitting in sequoia?

Hey Scott! Glad you checked in, sounds like you're staying busy.

I'm no expert on the fancy new lightweight saddles but I do know that there is a trade off between comfort and light weight. For extended hang times I would be looking for something with extra wide leg straps and/or a batten seat. The Tree Austria has a removable batten seat that snaps in place in about 3 seconds. There have also been a bunch of people on the forum raving about the comfort of the New Tribe saddles.

If I cant get a bunson seat for a Sequoia I'm going to try a dragon fly seat it looks like it will hook up.

ok sorry. just that that thing looks sweet IMO. I think I'm get it for my next saddle.
