Wonder why they don't come up with a locking snap, say secured with a pin or something, it doesn't seem very difficult. Never have seen one on a crane. Use it when required. Hanging off the hook there is no interference from the block. A new thing is some kind of magnetic snap that can be opened and closed remotely. Apparently guys getting injured when hooking and unhooking is somewhat common with moving heavy loads type industries
I'd probably go with the shackle/fs above the ball approach just cause its by the book, and I don't have any committed practices yet. Does anyone have a picture that id's the different parts of the crane hook area? Ie, hook, shackle... becket is the one I'm not familiar with.
