Sounds like they were getting ready in the eventuality of an overseas deployment. We used to do similar type training missions all the time when I served in the Guard (twenty years ago). Urban warfare is the hardest to train for realistically. Its a shame that our troops have to fight paranoia before Iraquis or Afghanis. If they were really looking for something, they could be deputized, get a blanket warrant, and not have to ask for any permission.
The Army and Marines did a similar exercise some years ago in the bay area, Alameda and Oakland. Operation Urban Warrior. Though it was heavily restricted from it's original plan. Way too much opposition to it. Come in by air and sea going landing crafts and secure major building and close streets and bridges.
It's scary to think they are preparing to invade our own cities. But WTF?
It's not completely out of the realm of possibility that there would be "blanket warrants" used to collect weapons from US citizens. Even though our ownership of firearms is a very important component of our national security.
I wouldn't be so worried about the US military attacking, but it could be the Russians or somebody else impersonating? Before firing, I'd ask, "Who was Babe Ruth?" No quick answer or a confused look, tat tat tat......
If there was a training exercise like that planned, it would have been in the works from before Obama was elected.
I swear some folks are just not going to be happy unless Obama turns into some sort of socialist fiend. I think the reality is going to be boring compared to people's fantasies.
I feel bad for the guy. He is everyone's great hope and no way is it even humanly possible for him to fix all this. Traditionally the next guy in office will get the credit and he will get tromped on for trying.
I think Stephen's correct. There is such a delay in everything that the next guy is stuck with whatever the Pres did right or wrong. My Dad in one of his home spun wisdoms told me that managing the economy is like steering a supertanker while only being able to look to the rear of it.
Exactly why too much stock/blame gets laid at any sitting President's feet. The political machine in DC has not changed much in the last 16 years if not longer.
Its real easy right now to tell who is doing well still and who is not, each day the ranks of the have nots grows. It won't be long before people get their heads out of their asses.
