Anybody know where I can obtain them? I can get them over here, but they are ridiculously expensive. I need the type that release when you drop the load.
Yeah, with all the loggers sitting around wondering what to do until the next batch of houses will be built. I'll bet there are all sorts of chokers for sale.
yeah skwishey, getting lazy
those electronic ones behave just as I imagined - clogging up, getting stuck, not releasing etc.
The ones I ned release manually when you drop the trees on the landing stack.
I'm talking about weight, bulk, and ease of sliding under a log. Chain seems like it would get caught on damn near everything while getting to the logs. I've never used 'em so just speculating is all.
I prefer cable, the guys prefer chain. I have both, and the cable is a lot harder to release on the landing, but thats probably down to the design of the bells we're using.
We never had trouble with cable chokers and rocks. Ed, they seem like you would lose logs when pulling the turn together. I can't really see how they work though.
Doesn't matter, All our chokers were made the same, 1 eye, 1 nubbin and 1 bell and we worked some rocky ground sometimes. A dozer can slide a long way on a rocky hill
Even in high lead logging, unless otherwise specified, the logs are rarely picked of the ground much more than a dozer would. Just puts to much strain on everything not to mention the hazard involved if the logs broke free and could pick up momentum.
Heck yah! Although that looks like some pretty creamy going. Looks like a eagle carriage? That's the only type of slack puller I ever worked with, real nice carriages.
