While making a stump cut some one woud dump oil on the bar straight from the jug.

That's bad.... double bad bad. Had a boss that did it too. I could never bring myself to do that. If it didn't work,, it didn't work.

I know a couple that used to have a bucket old used engin oil and dip the bar/chain in it once in a while..

A dish detergent bottle full of oil is very nice for supplementing when stump cutting with an inadequate oiler. One of the nice things about Huskies and Dolmars is their provenance of copious quantities of oil.
