This was my buddy Mikes old truck. He got rid of it when he got his dump bed bucket truck. It ran just fine, not very purdy. I've a better side shot, I just can't find it.

Alright fellas, The fruits of my labor are about to show themselves. I should have a video up here in about a few hours or so.

Thanks for all of the guidance!

I have looked up a couple of these pick up bed dump kits. Anyone have any experience with them? Any particular products to mention?

Eric

I know a guy with one. He's used it for well over 10 years and it's still working, although he doesn't use the truck much any more.

Look forward to a video of you chipping into it.
Looks good, I like the simplicity.

Thanks for the video. Are you storing you valuable tools in the back of the cab?

I found a simple shelves did wonders in the back of my cab (no seats). One low one with things rarely needed beneath, sitting on the floor, like jumper cable, specialty tools, etc. Mostly accessible by pushing the seats forward. On top of that shelf, things like wedges, rope puller, first aid kit, tool box, etc. Out of sight from the outside. Shelf sits several inches below the windows and seatback, Then, on top, the day to day stuff, like lunch, rain gear/ clothes, hardhats/ helmets. When the back if really full, then some stuff comes to the front.

I have a back panel that is hinged on top with slide-out 2x2's to support it. Its good for working on stuff out of the rain/ sun, on the tailgate. Hasps on the box with plastic coated cables run through the bumper with eyes for padlocks to the hasps. Keep an honest man honest security, like running into the store, doing bids out of sight of the truck, etc. Being a wooden box, you can only get so secure, but better then cramming it all in the cab, which is only so secure, having glass windows.

Happy chipping! A good start!

SouthSound,

I am storing all of my gear in the "super cab" of my pickup. It gets pretty crowded in there but I manage to get all of my gear in the back.

I have thought about shelves in the back but my issue is that I do this part time and have to load and unload my gear for most of the jobs I do.

If I line a few up in a row then I keep the gear in the truck but otherwise driving my son around etc. doe not facilitate keeping the gear in there all of the time.

Bodean:

What dump kit is that on your white truck? Did you install it yourself? How do you like it? What is the lifting capacity?

Thanks,

Eric

i found a place to get sheet aluminum cheap here, my b.i.l. is a milwright at the flakeboard plant
he says they use that alluminum to press the flakeboard sheets, says i can by 20 ft long by 56 inch wide shets for about 200 a piece from the upper floor boys as he calls them at the mill

since theyre going out of business possibly, im gonna try to get 2 for 200 cash no receipt
gotta try anyways

Hi,

The hoist was like 800 from northern catalog, another fellow installed it for pretty cheap.
tacked on some expanded metal and viola. I like it alot, dumps great. Full load of chips.
The floor is the stock bed with some supports on the hoist attachment, so it's not super strong.
Probably dumps 2500/3000 lbs. Who knows for sure?

I drape a burlap tarp over the back window then just fold it over the load when it's full.

Yes it's messy but better than slashing brush and dumping by hand.

Plugged engine air filters, plugged A/C / heater cores are a concern too!

Trust me, I know!

A guy I know had radiator problems on his bucket truck from chainsaw chips plugging it up.

The tarp makes sense. Do what works for you.

Willie, what did it cost for the powder coated box to be built.
