I think you have underlying issues with the French.

Hahahha....there has to be a good follow-up but I just can't think of it right now...but that IS funny.

'Fess up, Burnham...just cause it's spelled Pantin and rhymes with canteen it drives you nutz...

LOL...really, it's because the Ascention is the only ascender I've ever seen that would periodically not grab if it was loaded on a bit of an angle.

I like plenty of the other Petzl products.
:D

My CMI double handle will do that, too.
Even if it isn't french!

THAT is precisely why I learned to footlock. I can't bear to say, 'Pantin'... it's just plain ghey. :what:

I think they both have their pros and cons. The Pantin is smaller and more compact, lighter, and can be removed from/installed on the rope without having to reach down with your hand. But the downside is that it will kick off the line sometimes when you dont' want it to, especially while you are still learning to use it (which is the worst time to have this happen). The CMI on the other hand is bulkier, heavier, less expensive, and must be installed/removed by hand.

It's tough to do unless you have some weight on the end of the line.

That's what I was figuring. Then again with the height of trees on your side of the country, the tail of the rope would be more than enough.

It is Pan Tin or Pan Teen - HA HA Pecan

I like mine so much I now use the GB rope walker. I have not used a CMI so I can not compare to that, YET. Mine is in the mail when treedude gets it posted and I SEND the cheque. And I do not take it off my foot when in the tree, it stays on the foot. I have been seen later in the day with it still on as I forget about it.

hmm - to tin or teen that is the question

The little things that we take for granted today. Like the Pantin and the minder pulley. You can climb without'em but climbing is sure a lot easier with'em.

I spent better than 25 years climbing with a taughtline hitch. I started using a split tail back in the 70's but never even thought of incorporating a minding pulley into the system. Man that simple little thing has saved me so much energy. I wish I would have found out about it a lot sooner.

Gerry, I LOVE the rope walker that you shared and YES without that little foot acender thingy it would be impossible. It saves me so much time.

I have been using it regularly and it works smooth and cost me very little as I already had most of the parts.
