I agree that muffs would definitely suck in high humidity.. But ya know what... my guys laugh at me when I have all my layers on while the weather is nice while I am tending a fire... know what? I am the one that can get right in and personal with it though ;)
 
I replaced my Ecrin Roc last year with a Pacific kevlar, mainly because the Roc broke after a pretty light impact. I called Petzl to ask what was up with that, and they told me the plastic helmets are only supposed to last 2 years because plastic gets brittle in sunlight. Also consider availability of replacement parts - you can't get any from Petzl, but Pacific will sell you any parts you want.
