Cross cut saws still used in wilderness areas where chainsaws are banned.

Very few if in fact any tools in use today weren't thought of eons ago .It's just more that modern adaptations were applied to them .When you boil it all down it goes back to basic geometry and physics .Neither has ever changed that I'm aware of .

Not so with screw machines .Acme -Gridley chuckers are still used . For a machine first made in the 30's they are mechanical wonders .Properly set up they will out run a CNC on small parts .

Yes, they are fast and accurate and still in use, but are they still produced? I've set up and run plenty of them, but even then they were all over 40 years old!

Again, used yes, but can you still buy one? I've heard of a lot of people looking for them and having to buy used ones at auctions.

There are different kinds of adzes, a chair adze is what I was mainly referring too, it must be on the close to extinction list

I have an 'asian' hoe that looks like that adze, sorta. cant wait to see if this ends up in the quote thread. :/:

Not as far as I know Andy .However as recently as about 8 years ago you could still get repair parts for them .

I doubt you could find a new one but the net is full of used ones .Complicated SOB's but once you get the hang of them they are running SOB's in the right application.

Tell you what ,in spite of this CNC stuff and robots I do now I miss those old mechanical marvels .Those I could figure out what was wrong with them in about a minute .The cnc stuff might take two hours on a lap top .Progress my foot .

I used a foot adze to make square ones out of round ones for a loooong Summer when i was 17.

Tools that aren't made anymore... piece-o-cake. Software development toolboxes for the 8088 processor... WIN!

The Amish have some interesting old stuff they use to build those post and beam barns with .Hand operated boring machines come to mind .

Actually I haven't seen a barn being raised in years because they build them now just like anyone else .Just a simple pole building with metal siding and roofing .It doesn't take them long though as they look like ants on ant hill and get with it mucho quicko .

If a tool is no longer being made or used, then the word we call it by would also be out of use, in which case none of us are likely to have ever heard of it. Of course nobody can think of any tools that are no longer around. Take belaying pins for example. Eventually people might forget what a belaying pin is as they were used on old sailboats, but when that happens the fact that people don't know about belaying pins doesn't mean belaying pins never existed.

This guy seems to believe that he know's about every single tool ever invented, which is preposterous. Anybody who says they know all about everything, including things they've never heard of or seen before, is a few french fries short of a full meal deal.

I challenge anybody to think of the word for an object they have never seen or heard of before. :P Kind of a stupid challenge, isn't it? :|:

Chastity belts are a common fetish toy, Sorry Butch.

Of course, the ONLY reason i would know that is, not only is Hillsborough home to Eurosport, Adam & Eve is also based here, I shot some product for'em. I can't for the life of me understand WHY someone would WANT to use a chastity belt.
