Wel inspection time is here in a week or two and I need to put some new rubber on the road. I am running a f350 4x4 one ton with chip box and towing a 200 xp. I got some cheap tires for the front last spring to get through, and that is all they did. Any high reccomendations for tires?

Recaps on the rear. I got mine for $100 a piece, DEEP tread, and they go 30,000 of hauling chips and dragging a chipper.

I just got 6 new Toyo Open Country A/T 2 on my dually.

Nice tread, last set lasted WELL over 35,000 miles. All heavy towing.

About two bills each.

Looks good Brendon. Never thought of Toyo.

Jeff how do those sound going down the road? I don't need anymore noise than I already have. Nice tread design though.

Chris I played the retread game once before and had bad luck. I swore I would never go that route again. Then again it was twenty yrs ago and I imagine the vulcanizing process could be better.

Been running Michelin 10 ply 265/70-17 LTX AT2 on my diesel pickup for 50,000 miles now . 1/2 of that pulling my chip trailer. Due for a change soon, not down to the wear bars yet.
I was looking at the Toyo open country at2 but a little worried about road noise , lots of tread and good warranty though, even offer to give your money back if not satisfied up to 500 miles of use.
But have had good luck with the Michelins, price is steep though. I guess you get what you pay for.

My bud has Goodyear Wrangler Kevlar on his truck and they are wearing like iron. Good off road snow and mud and are supposed to be pretty indestructible. His truck is quiet on the road and I don't notice tire noise. They are pricey.

So I went with Brendon's suggestion of the Toyos. I could have he'd them delivered for around $1100, but I decided to have Town Fair Tire install them and align my truck for $70 more. Well they didn't align my truck and apologized the next day for giving me the wrong information. Now two weeks later after I find two broken studs and all the lug nuts finger tight, they are telling me that I didn't come back for a re-torque at 50 miles. Apparently I signed something to state that. I just pulled the rears off to find the alignment pins on my hubs have been removed and the retainer ring is missing on both sides.

Ay thoughts on my next move? They are not cooperating as of now.

This I s why I have always performed my own brake work tire work and most of all the other mechanics done to my vehicles.

If it were me I'd:
Document the time line, and exactly what happened; head in and speak to the manager.
If they are not ready to make it right, call your lawyer then and there from the showroom and advise him of the improper treatment you're receiving and ask his advise.
I only did that once and the shop manager interrupted my call to say they would make it right.

I had a shitty experience with them too! From the weights they put on, to different size length valve stems on all the tires (would have drove me nuts). I dismount my own, and bring them there for the exact reason you explain. There is a bunch of punk ass kids working those places, they can care less how your vehicle is treated.

Next time I'll mount my own, and balance them with Dynabeads.

Good luck.

My brother in law took the family vehicle to a shop and had tie rods, center link installed. Fortunately I crawled under to look things over. No cotter pins installed and some nuts on loose.

Shoddy work seems to be normal it seems.

So I checked out the torque specs for my truck and for a loaded vehicle it should be 165 ft/lbs and 150 unloaded. They torqued them to 140. I need to find something I can reference when I attack.

Most places torque them with an air wrench. The few times I had tires mounted by a shop I tell them just get em on finger tight and I will torque them in the parking lot. They usually overtorque a car or light truck.

I had my steering about come loose from idiots like that on the 101 freeway in LA... It sucked... All of a sudden I am changing lanes.... Not a good thing. I pulled over and they had forgotton to pu in the cotter pin on the arm. Closer look there were a few missing in the front end.. Dumb shits can kill someone. Got lucky, nut still had a couple of threads left before falling off by the time I got from the fast lane to the shoulder...

Had my radiator flushed once and they forgot to put new coolant in. It's a good thing I was watching the guages or it would have ended badly.

I took a cylinder head to have the valves and seats ground. They forgot to clean the grit out of the valve pockets. I caught it before I put it on an engine with brand new sleeves and pistons.

My ex took her v6 for a head gasket replacement. They just lifted the back head up enough to slip the old gasket out and the new one in. I took it apart and could prove to the shop owner by the exhaust manifold bolts and pipe studs the head had never been off. Got most of the money back without small claims.

I had a retread pop a few months ago on the highway. Had two new tires put okay at Les Schwab. A couple weeks later I came home from work, walked around the truck and the two duallys were crooked. 1 life remained, and two studs. Praise God I didn't send those two big wheels rolling down the road at someone, and drag my axle. I could've rolled with a load being an f350 with a big chip box. I called the shop, they sent a tow, replaced the rims, hub, and inspected otherwise, said it was good.

Big mistake on their part, but I'd say they did right. I'd still go there if it were the closest to home base.

P.s. good'day mates
