sorry about my profiles lack of info. I will try and fill in the blanks tonite....if my wife will stay off farmville long enough. LOL!!! I work for a long time treeman in walker right now, but I also work for few other companies from time to time. I always give my "boss" first dibs. He dose not care as long as I am there for him when he needs me, and I am. I would like to start my own Climbers service with my own licence, insurence, and gear. There are over 80 tree services in the Baton Rouge area, and I want to cater to them instead of trying to "fight" them to get a new tree service off the ground. I am 33 years old. I'll buy ya'll a round, but I have to pass since I am trying to stay on the wagon.

Freelancing is cool. Butch is a freelance climber, I used to do that until my back wouldn't let me climb that much any more. So I bought a bucket truck and now sub myself out as a bucket operator. Much better money and better clientele.

Oh, and I'm 9 years sober myself.

Welcome Dan, I can fix ya up with a real farm (for your wife) and a tree company too. Not much competition, unless you count grass wackin' hacks. Catch is, it can get a tad cool up my way!!!

That is awesome there skwerl! I do hope to say that one day. Are you still a hired gun if you have your own liscence and insurance? I want to practice good Arborist skills no matter what the people I sub-contract for do. I know that I am a proficient climber with or without spurs. I have been told by many down here in Baton Rouge I am one of the best they have worked with....I don't let it go to my head. I just love to climb and do tree work in general!

I do know about the weather up north. I was raised by Duluth Minnesota until I went in the Marine Corps at 22 years old.

I don't know Tad Holt. Is he in this area Masterblaster?

Thanks again for all the welcomes!!!!!! Its nice to talk to MY kind of people.

Cool, dude!

Welcome! Cory is my name/screen name.

Thank you Sir can I have another. Hahaha looks like a float!

Dan, yes I'm licensed and insured as a tree service (sole proprietor). I did that even when I was climbing in order to cover my own liability. Most of my work is subbing to a half dozen regular clients/tree services, and when I get calls from homeowners I can either sell the job myself and bring in one of my buddies with a chipper and groundman or else I can pass the job along if it's not an easy bucket job.

The most important aspect of being a subcontract climber is to make sure you don't get locked in with just one client. I made that mistake several times, ended up working with the same guy almost every day. Then when that ended I didn't have any work and had to scramble to establish other working relationships. Now I rarely work for the same guy more than twice per week.

Jay, that 'foam' is mostly ice cream. :P

I am in your mistake right now! But I have no insurence right now hence no license. BUT I have taken and passed the Louisiana Arborist test! I just need to get me some liability and I will be good to go. The man that I work for now is ok. The only complaint I have is that he kinda makes me feel like a idiot, and acts like I don't know what I am doing. He has told me other wise on both counts in the past.
I don't think a raise would happen and the only way I can see to go is to become a Sub-Climber.
I think I will have to make some more steps and pic your brain somemore skwerl.
