They are spendy, no doubt, but she has more torque and the throttle response is so very nice. I think all saw makers have their rock star saws and I can happily say I have one from Germany.

They do rock. I was adamantly opposed to running the 200T for many years before I finally saw the light. I even had a few top handle saws ported and ended up spending more than the cost of a 200T but still never came close to the same results. My mind was changed one day when my new ported top handle was giving me fits and the ground guy sent me up a 200T to finish the job. By the time I got out of the tree I was convinced and the next day I had my own brand new 200T. Been using them ever since.

I ran a tank and a half yesterday in various sized wood I don't want to beat on it just yet till it is broken in. When I was in the larger wood it was nice she held the rate of cut as I was sweeping pretty hard, just to see. Now if I can get my 338 to do the same.

My advice Flushcut is silver solder a 1 1/2" long [1" inside muffler] X 9/16" thin wall steel tubing into the bottom of your 338XPT's muffler, cut a hole in the plastic cover for clearance. Your 338 will be a totaly different saw. Try some .325 chisel on it too.
I love my MS200 but I love the top handle of the 338 for its excellent grip, especially when using it one handed. I know that one handed is a no no but we all do it if we can.

I'm hoping the new Husky top handle is a winner. I know the 200 is a good saw. I owned a 020 back in the 70's and early 80's. The starter pin broke out of the one piece cover. Stihl had changed to a 2 piece and didn't stock the old style. $80 for the cover stuck in my craw. I fashioned a pin that bolted on the broken out center with a couple washers. $80 back then is probably about $150 today.

Just so you guys know, since I didnt see anyone bring it up over here. Stihl recalled the flippy caps on some models. http://www.stihlusa.com/recalls/recall_toolless_cap/FAQ/index.html

Here is a list, dont see any chainsaws yet. The recall dont include chainsaws, here is the model numbers listed on recall.

Also here is a video of the replacement cap Baileys has for chainsaws.

I hear ya HT that is one of many projects on a list about three feet long. I do like Huskies ergonomics better.

Actually many do feel the Husky has a better balance .The main complaints are the front mounted air filter and the muffler that burns them on the 335 model . Now that was referencing the 335 . I've never personally talked to anyone who uses a 338 .

my climber just bought one, they went up to over 600 bucks....can you say over priced, the guy at the shop said theyre gonna stop making it

All of Stihl stuff is over priced but I think the 200 was money well spent for me.

There is no single tool which you can buy as a treeman which will pay for itself quicker than a 200T. They could be $1000 and would still pay for themselves dozens of times over in the first year.

I think that is valid point. I was thinking about it and I use my top handles about 80% of the time on a removal. So spending the money is a wash, hell I have thousand dollar saws that I use for two cuts on a removal and have no problem justifying that cost.

When I first started doing trees I had a couple of shindaiwa's. About two months into the deal I hired a climber that brought one along. As soon as I saw him using that from the bucket I knew I needed to get one. I had to finish the job I was on before I could afford one and I think I did $1200 of work the first day I had it. It was easily twice as productive as using the shindaiwas.

I bought my first 020T in May '95, $1250Au probably about $1400US then. Best buy I ever made.

Tried a lot of top handle saws before and since then. If I had to buy another one price wouldn't matter, I've got three at the moment. 8)

its been that long for me, i stopped having them i think cause the crews kept breaking the damn gas tank s in the truck tool boxes, and they cost 1/2 of new to replace the tanks...so i just gave them cheaper saws

Soo what's the deal with those Baileys replacement caps? Are they available for purchase or are those prototypes or something?

Here you go. I copied and pasted answer for you.

Howdy,

We're waiting for them to dot the i's and cross the t's on the th patent before we start selling them. I really don't have any good due date yet.

Regards

Gregg

Al it seems I threw a curve ball to my good stihl dealer. No word back yet.

I bet he (my dealer) is scratching his head how I got a loop from his rep before he even knows about it.
