I missed this thread somehow...

Looks like a fun jam!

Fiddler, you mentioned that you got to jam with Doc Watson and John Hartford backstage.

Badass!

John Hartford is a trip, one of my favorite musicians. It's a bummer he's gone.

Bluegrass City!

I played upright bass in 8th grade band, I loved it - I wish I had one, but thoses suckers are expensive! Is that your bass?

Leon..... yeah, Mole lake Wisconson, about 20 years ago. Both Doc & John are/were really down to earth guys as most of the greats usually are. The only real A$$ I ever met was Dwight Yoakum.

MB....Not mine. another buddy from a different old band let me use it for the weekend. He was going to come and play Bass so I could play fiddle but he got into a big golf tournament so just lent the Bass to me.

So, Yoakum is a jerk.......

How come he never takes off his hat? Is he afraid to show that he's thin on top, or something?

I can't play a note... but can sing my ass off...

I was the singer in a rock band in high school, and have been known to suprise most people that hear me... since nobody knows I can sing pretty good.

Last new years eve... my friends kids had the Playstation out and was playing "Rock Band"... somebody said... "Hey Gary... you can sing can't ya?"...

I shrugged and told the kids to put the song "Run To the Hills" by Iron Maiden on the game... then we did some Aerosmith... blew everybody away that I could sing like that...

I am thinkin' about takin' some lessons to get my voice back in shape... just for the heck of it...

Years ago I was told "the only reason the instruments are there is to back up the vocals".
I still go by that belief today.

Just a guess. :)

I sing very little lead when around good singers. I am mostly known for singing harmony parts. Love the old time 4 & 5 part Gospel stuff.

MB, I grew up listening to my aunts & uncles all singing, but there is a lot more of the real stuff down where you are. Old time shape note singing and such.
