Yes, thanks guys.....had my first dinner in five days. I kept it light with some raw tuna, rice, and a little soup. It was great! Stomach isn't perfect yet, but seems to be much improved. :)

No, looking it up on the web, a number of different stomach disorders have similar symptoms to what I've been experiencing, from nothing to be concerned about, on up to ulcers and the big C..... The discomfort came on so quick, it's sort of hard to imagine anything serious.

I thought Ii'd wait a couple days to see what evolves, then go in for a check-up. There's a doctor with a good reputation close by, who specializes in stomach problems.

This little bout with whatever it was, is going to change my eating habits, as I mentioned. I'm not heavy, other than a couple pounds I guess, but I generally have liked to pack it in at the table. I think that the advise to leave some room is well taken. I bought some protein powder today, that Paul recommended, try to not eat so much and supplement with that a bit.

I had one day of tree work in the middle of this thing, and my stomach felt better that day that any other before and after. The hard activity seemed helpful, perhaps an aid in digestion? Anyway, live and learn, hopefully.

It could be an ulcer, the pain of one, "coming in waves", is similar to what I experienced, and the sensation of being full after eating just a little.

I woke up this morning with no discomfort, for the first time in a couple weeks. Could be that my little fast helped to set things right.

I just went through the town's public health check, and all tests came back with good results, though bad cholesterol was a tad high, and I've started to try and remedy that. I would have gone for the barium stomach x-ray, but they recommended not doing it if feeling unwell, and that's just when I started having problems. They also did a stool check, but I'm still waiting for those results. With the stool check, I'll at least know about parasites.

Your message is well taken though, and I am just sort of making excuses. I'm thinking to head into the doctors this coming week, to discuss what I've experienced, no matter how I'm feeling. I expect he'll want to use his camera on me. I'm up for it.

Thanks Butch.

Way longer than you want to. Remember, the doc doesn't want the scope to be dealing with errant turd balls, obscuring the visualization. He wants to see all pink.

At least 24 hrs.

Oh, thanks Che. Went through the procedure this morning, the fiberscope in the stomach. Aside from the usual tendency to gag a bit, it went OK, with the doc seeming to be good at his trade. A kindly young nurse stood behind me and rubbed my back through the entire thing, which added a degree of peace of mind. It's strange to stare at your innards with a black hose going through, kind of fascinating and eerie at the same time. The test doesn't end any time too soon, for sure.

Results were negative, most fortunately. A couple small innocent polyps and some inflammation in two areas, but nothing to be concerned about, was the verdict.

Blood test was OK too. He says that there can be prolonged stomach pain for no apparent reason, but if it continues much longer, a CT scan is the next thing to do.

I also asked him about the colonoscopy, if it is something to have done as a routine thing. He said that polys and other problems also arise there, commonly, but unless you note something unusual, like blood, it isn't necessary. That's a little contrary to what I have heard before, but he seems like a real good doctor.

So, I'm giving it more time, with the thought that whatever is going on, it will get better.

Thanks for the concern!

Jay

PS. Considering having pizza tonight, after an incredible healthy diet over the past few weeks. I've lost at least five pounds!

they test foe h-plory? spelled wrong. Its a bacteria that is normal....but can get outta wack and make you feel sick

Good to hear nothing's OBVIOUSLY wrong....wish you felt 100% though. Pizza's good.....especially homemade, you can make it as 'light' (or not) as you want.

Most tests are digital now, even (some) mammograms are instantly on the screen. I guess you don't need to worry about that one though.

Hope you continue to feel better.

Thanks.

Yeah, No_Bivy, I was expecting the test for H. Pylori, the bacteria that causes ulcers and worse, but no culture was taken. The doc is a gut specialist, and I got the impression that he could well tell what need be required by what he observed during the camera procedure. Oddly, he seemed a little bored that he didn't find anything for me to get excited about.

That was always my impression about the colon check, MB, the test just as a preventative for over 50, so I specifically asked him about it.
Maybe his reply is some new thinking about the procedure...? That kind of thing sometimes gets a different perspective as time goes along, but I dunno...

My throat still feels like it has a hose in it, there must be some slight bruising that results from the test. Glad to have it behind me. Pretty amazing instrument, the different things it can do while inserted, besides just lighting and filming. A quite complete visual analysis of your entire digestive system in about ten minutes, and you get to watch too! Got to give a hand to medical technology for developing it, no doubt it has saved a lot of lives.

Ha, it's almost like you're never free of concern about your body, even when there are no telltale signs of something not regular. A basic try to stay healthy regiment is pretty darn important. Unfortunately, we sometimes don't realize that until something bad comes up. Clawing your way back to good health once you've been stricken with something serious, can be a real hassle.

Tubes getting stuck in, no thanks for a goodly while please. :|:
