Just curious what your experiences are. What kind of 5/8" rope did you try, and did it fit? did it slip a lot or a little?

I’ve used several braids, etc with it, but found 1/2” Treemaster to be the best. I’ve tried a couple of other 1/2” 3-strands, but Treemaster is firmer/harder than the others and works the best. I don’t know that the Maasdam is built anywhere near strong enough to make use of the strength of 5/8” rope.

when I bought my maasdam the saw shop gave me 150ft of 5/8 rope to run in it, wouldn't fit at all, get a hard lay 1/2" 3 strand and it'll work great

I use a prusik on the working side with a micropulley and run the tail through it like a Z rig so I can pull the system tight with a 3:1 using the maasdam as a progress capture, and also keep the tail snug so it can't slip in the maasdam
