HitchHiker: DRT Switch and Basic Use

You can probably still get one floor $100... but not for long.. the new version is 2 or 300

I think I remember you recommending a 32gb micro sd card to go with it, any other suggestions/recommendations? :?
Thanks again, I appreciate your help! :D

I think 32 gb is plenty. That is the max of the battery life pretty much @ 1080 res.

I suggest getting a medium sized gorilla pod or similar twisty tripod.

I think this is the same camera(free shipping ;))??? My tax return is on it's way and if the price holds it's a done deal! :big-bounce:
Nick,
is the Gorilla Pod good for up in the tree?, or just good for "everywhere"?
Thanks for the help! :D

Gorilla pods are really expensive, I got this one @ target http://www.google.com/shopping/prod...a=X&ei=ViRSUd2BBbO80AHejIDgCQ&ved=0CHMQ8wIwAw it was around $20. The part that screws into the camera broke off cause I twisted the camera on too tight. Some gorrilla glue fixed it and otherwise it works great. I have a piece of cord on it with a key chain biner that I wrap around a branch when at height incase it loses its grip.

Dont buy a memory card from a brick and mortar store, amazon is around 40% cheaper. You have to have a class 10 card.. I recommend this one, and its a good price:
http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-Inf...7920&sr=1-5&keywords=sdhc+card+class+10+32+gb

I wouldnt wait for your tax return if you can swing it at all now. Amazon only has two of the $99 ones left and with the new model out when the Roam1's are gone they are gone. You can get a good camera at a great price now, or even buy 2-3 for less than the price of a gopro.

Nick,
I know I keep saying it but, thanks! :D I "made the commitment" and ordered the Contour with the Transcend 32 gb card you suggested, should show up sometime next week. I'm gonna hafta wait on the "gorillapod" right now(wait for the tax return that is ;) ).
Also, on your HH tender, did you call Treestuff and custom order it? Or did you/someone make it? :? I'm still using coathanger wire and would like something "better". thanks Nick, I appreciate it!!!

Peer pressure? No, I can't hide behind that excuse :D ...went ahead and bought one, too.
Next will likely be the Brinno TLC200 Time Lapse and Stop Motion HD Video Camera...

Randy, Luke and I are working on a viable tether, the one he sent me had some issues though. I still favor the original one I made out of 5mm cord and electrical tape. The tape is ideal to me because it stretches allowing you to make the eyes tighter and then it grips the biner. Thanks for reminding me I have to get back to Luke about his tether, which with some improvements will be pretty cool I am sure.

Pat, dont go falling down the rabbit hole now! I have so many cameras, its an addiction.

Thanks Nick,
I actually took some old beeline cord and hand stitched a tether to try it out and see what it would look/work like for actual use. Issues.....seemed kinda thick as far as fitting "the curve" of the 'biner. Didn't seem to fit in against the HH side plates very well. It did work OK tending the HH, but it didn't allow the steel 'biner to move around like it should. :?
Thanks for all the great feedback and suggestions/recommendations on the HH setup. I've got mine "close" to where I'd like it, but still doing some "tweaking"..... ;)

Looking forward to giving his HH a try. I might have to re-watch some of Nick's cool videos and bug Adam to gain some tips.

The tighter the better at first. Sacrifice the tending smoothness for the reliable grip then dial it back slowly from there! Definitely give Jamies ascent system a try to!

Thanks guys. Would 7 wraps be considered "tight"? Also Nick, is Jamie's ascent system posted somewhere here in the Treehouse?

This is Jamies system:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/r4Y5mE4WmxE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The only thing I do differently is I use my lanyard over the shoulder to advance the HH, not a tether from the upper ascender.

I use 7 wraps with 8mm HRC but I think 6 works better with the 10mm Beeline its supplied with. The 'tightness' is in how tight the wraps are. When you thread the loose end through the dogbone for the last time, after the wraps, you can pull it really tight before tying your stopper. I will pull it to the point that it bends the rope and tie the stopper as tight as I can. You lose some to the knot tightening up and more when its weighted so thats why you go so tight in the setup.

During ascent is when its most important it be tight incase you blow a foot ascender or slip or what not. Once aloft and working it can be loosened a small amount (think 1/8-1/4") to make it smoother. You will need to try several configurations of wraps, tightness and dressing, then I recommend trying some 8mm HRC with 7 wraps.

Thanks Nick. Will try it out with 6 tight wraps to start and will most likely use the "lanyard over the shoulder" thing.

video is here https://www.masterblasterhome.com/showthread.php?16402-Hitch-Hiker-Reviews/page3 i recoment putting the petzl basic below the HH and using your lanyard over the shoulder to keep the HH tight to your chest though. it is a safer and cleaner setup. or go with NHlocals setup <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/iqwJ3r1qFf4?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
