I’ve never noticed this particular species before (doesn’t mean much). Looks like it was purposely planted in a common area. Not sure if it’s diseased? Maybe a species of birch? Downloaded that ID app John suggested but still figuring out how to integrate with it

John, This was actually in Nottingham. Have you seen these in Southampton?

Ruel, thanks for the lead. Gonna see what Google images produces. It’s just so very difficult without any starting point

I would have guessed japanese elm, but up close the tree looks dead and like giant grubs have eaten under the bark.

I’m still not sure what those rust colored bumps are. Can’t get a close up on google of lacebark elm to see if that’s a character trait or disease

It’s a character trait. Found a good close up. Very interesting and beautiful bark. It has a lot going on. It’s even beautiful when dormant

Sean & Deva got it right: Ulmus Parviflora, Chinese or Lacebark Elm. See details at the following (the second link shows the bark w/the blemishes):

Here’s a pic of where it’s been naturalized in the US and Canada. From Virginia Tech tree ID app John recommended. It has quite the range! It’s impressive for a deciduous tree to grow in such varying climates! In my humble opinion, that is
