I found this local, guy wants 2400$.

I've thought about building a setup like Willard-small chipper with 6-8 yard dump box on a trailer. Tow behind the rear mount for small-medium wood stays jobs.

It's a 97, 4 cyl Wis, x rental.

Not pretty, would need a strip and paint, repower at some point I'm sure.

Hours? Seems like it would be worth checking out. Was it only a rental or did the guy use it as a tree service?

Gas, no meter. It's used, it was rental. Runs, needs muffler. Has title. Bought a group of items from a rental company, just got it to flip.

I would research the engine more but it could be a good buy. Are you in the market or do you just always keep an eye open for a deal?

I've been thinking about building Willards set up. In reality, I don't need the head ache or extra project. It's in NY if anyone wants the number.

That engine, and it's parts, are getting to be scarce as hens teeth! I think it was two years ago Natalie was looking for one to replace on a chipper, it took all of us combined to hook her up then, I can't imagine now!
Repowering is fine and all, but plan on spending as much converting it over as you spend on the chipper! Three years ago I helped a guy do an engine swap on a John Deere 316, they don't make the Onan anymore, it was $1400 for the 22hp Honda set up to drop in.
Neat machine, decent price, but don't count on it regularly, it could be weeks or months to get it back up and running. Just my .02.

I would buy that pronto!!

New set of knives and start making $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Problem is if that Wisconsin engine goes south he could easily have the purchase price in a replacement .Of course it could be rebuilt but Wisconsin OEM parts are not cheap .

The specs from what I read on a model 65 lists 27 to 38 HP so it's a small unit .As such it won't have much capacity to grind up larger stuff .From what has been said regarding this machine it's more geared towards being a rental unit .My opinion is it won't fill the needs of a tree service unit .

It sounds a good deal to me but then everything you guys talk about sounds cheap.

They are a good little chipper. Gas ones here are usually 27hp Kohler, but I've seen Honda's put on them, they're bit cheaper.

It seems like a good deal, but the engine swap will cost you a bit if needed, and what condition are the bearings on the drum in.Remember it was a rental machine which means it ran with dull knives and improper anvil adjustment most of its life. What does the hydraulic fluid look like in the tank? Unless you really have a need for this chipper (they are sweet) I would walk.

I've had one of these chipper before. It was my first chipper, nice little fellow. Made awesome 1/4" wood chips.

I really don't need it, so I won't bother.

This was my old one, it was pretty danged mint.

I would love one, with a very small chip truck. For those tiny jobs. I don't turn away tiny jobs. I do have a minimum charge regardless of how small the work is. I always thought it would be marvelous to have a an ultra light weight chipper, behind a small, light, maneuverable truck. Just to hop around doing small hits that add up nicely.

Problem is, I have to many things with engines. Maintenance is costly, and it probably won't make my job any faster at the moment.:|:

One of those things you have is a mint 12"chipper. I wouldn't worry about this, you don't need projects to worry you.

More engines can mean more headaches, sometimes. I don't think ill ever buy a mini chipping set up. I fantasize about it when I add up diesel fuel receipts each week though.
