UPDATE: I have left this PP 261 stock still and was having troubles cold starting since I got it. No H or L on the EPA California carb :? .

Well today firing it up for the first time I was paying close attention. Primer worked right and slide choke on. Noticed choke wasnt getting full travel shown in opening on air filter cover. So after taking cover off pushed choke lever the rest of the way. Put air filter cover back on choke wouldnt move to off. :|: Ding ding ding the light went off. Unscrewed the hold down bolt through air filter cover and put a thick washer on it between cover and bolt head. Choke was never closing all the way before and now I have full travel of choke lever and fires right up. 8)

Sorry, I thought I told you about that

It does have high and low... one is through the top of the throttle arm, the other on the rear of the carb and are teeny tiny and guarded by some sort of screw inside of it. Very obscure and special tool required is all I know so far. I have had a buddy that works on them remove the protective devise. Seems one can get in trouble if you work at a dealer and remove them.

I seen something that looked sealed off. On top all I see is Idle screw.

I had to have a 93 HD carb drilled when I bought it new. Ran right and the way I thought it should after that. HD dealer did it too.

Cursedvoyce, wife walking by noticed your avatar and stated that would make a good pumpkin pattern. You or family into carving real or artificial pumpkins?

What is an artificial pumpkin.

One that turns into a horse and carriage at twelve midnight, maybe?.

We did a couple one year, Katy and I. Had some patterns to play with. Katy did a wolf howling and I can't find the dang pictures. Oh well. We might try again when the kids get a tad older. They have a tendency at their age to demand much attention during the carving of a pumpkin to really concentrate on one
We are just making scarey faces now. lol.

OK Here is the IPL on the Carb.... http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=echo&mn=PPT-261++S%2FN%3A+06001001-06999999&dn=5604

The Low is on top of the throttle assembly #1 on the listing. See the hole in the center top? It is down that hole. There is a limiter plug #2 you have to remove first. Don't even ask me what kind of tool does it. It is tiny and I never get to see it when they adjust anything. Buggers!
High speed needle is #10, limiter#11 on the bottom back(?) of the carb.... Hope this helps:|:
PITA little bastids.

Sweet I only seen 10 - 11 Thanks.

Ok.. Just a couple of updates
We use this saw a bunch and we bought it used when it was about two years old. It was used a bunch then too...
Any who...
Clutch finally went.. Bought the assembly and that was a quick fix.
Engine lost compression... Finally gave it up... Replaced it.. Small block replacement is about $100.00 and does not take too long at all to replace.
The shaft and housing have taken a few blows and parts replaced.
So couple weeks ago, something bound up and the main shearing shaft went at the clutch. When I dug in, I saw a lot of worn parts. The housing was also showing signs like things not tightening down on it much any more so the handle would float...
So we ordered a new tube, shear shaft, bearing/guide assembly, spring (was really rough), some spaces here and there. Air filter needed replaced (I usually have 2 so ordered another) and the air filter cover was broken in places. The exhaust cover was cracked. Bunches of little things that were just bugging me. This last order ran about $150.00 and change.
So the whole thing looks pretty new once again.. Things are tight and running nice.
Bit of a PITA to replace the tube and get the shafts all set. But inexpensive enough to do and the learning curve was not too bad. Very doable.
This has been a good saw. Heavy, but holds up nicely to our abuse and work pace. On ladder fuel reduction jobs she will run 5-6 hours a day.
Woks around the house from time to time too for keeping limbs up and out of the eyes while handling critters.
So there you have it. She should be good for another 5 years anyway :)

What a testimony for that echo.

Try a loop of the PS3 or PS on it. Gets you through faster. ;)
