So back to the Eagles. Are you guys far enough South that they stay there all winter, or do they migrate?

no, they migrate Brent, we get some spells of -40+ every winter, and some pretty bad ice and snow storms, they would not make it here , especially if the river freezes, and in the 1000 islands region, it does quite a bit since the areas of water are broken up by the islands.

We are seeing quite a rise in Bald and Golden Eagles in our area. Hmmmm amkes me feel like calling the DNR about a nesting strategy!

they are good to have around, but the big goldens are known to grab small goats and sheep eh? lol not good for farming ;)

We don't have no stinkin' goats or sheep here. Another benefit for the Eagles is that the N. shore of the S. Saskatchewan River is now owned by a Organic Beff producer. He has shut down all hunting on it since he purchased it 3 yrs ago. Lots of prime habitat for nesting eagles.

About 4 miles up River I took a pic of an Eagle nest 7/8 of the way up a 200' gorge! Looks isolated and really unstable. Talk about a commitment to fly on the first try!!!!

Stephen, you suffer from honkey-lack-o'-assitis...LOL ;) never had that problem, mine isn't big, just sticks out...I can hang a 440 on my saddle without suspenders :)

We end up with the weirdest threads sometimes!
Now we have treeguys discussing the shape and size of their derriere!

Cary - if I built a platform like that in a tree in my front yard, I could rent it out for at least $300 per month to some college kids. That is one stout nest! It might need to be though, as eagles simply keep on adding to their nests every year of their approx 25 year life span. As a result, they can grow to incredible sizes. I heard on the radio that the largest nest ever measured weighed almost 1 ton.
