Do You Know Your Blood Type?

This was a simple operation but she lost some blood and needed a transfusion. Her religious beliefs stopped her from taking it and she passed leaving her teenage son and daughter without a mother. It still boggles my mind to this day.

I won't be leaving any kids behind me.
I have always lived my life( well always is a big word, since I became an adult, anyway) according to some firm rules of my own.
Not procreating is one of them.

Nothing comes for free, of course.
It took me a loooong time to find a woman who felt the same way.

Do those wills work, Brian?

Because just last week I saw on the news here that the place where you register them here got less than 50 calls from medical personel every year, checking if their patient had made one.
They are worthless unless you have some relative who can browbeat the doctors into respecting them.
And even that may not work.
My mom can browbeat with the best but that was to no avail in the case of my grandmother.

If you simply turn someones life support off for them, you get charged with manslaughter.

My best friend died from a brain tumor. He was remarkably unafraid of dying but was scared shitless about becoming a vegetable.
So he asked me if I would turn ofhis life support if that became the case.
I had him tell his wife and parents about it and put it in writing as well, then we figured I would get off with a suspended sentense.

He died shortly after from a massive brain hemorrhage, so I never had to do it.
But that really made me think about this stuff.

I give blood every 6 to 12 weeks, so I know my type. Also know my cholesterol.

I can understand not wanting to be kept alive as a veggie, but why would you refuse to receive a few units of blood, especially if it means the difference between life and death.

"Blood is life, pass it on."

Same here. I also wouldn't want to be kept alive as a veggie, but getting in a car accident and needing a pint or so of blood to keep you going is what I give blood for. I'm also B+.

Don't know myself. I do remember they told me when I entered the service, but I've forgotten since then. I'm sure I could find out, as I get poked once a month for testing, just never been interested enough to ask.

I have some kind of rare antigen in my blood. When I give, I get a purple card on my paperwork that says "RARE - SAVE FOR RESEARCH" or something like that.

I don't know mine. I don't give blood and haven't had a physical in over 20 years.

My FIL died refusing a liver transplant. He married a JW, took on his wife's religion, and died following some bullshit idea rather than have a chance to meet his grandkids with a borrowed liver.
